Air Fryer Ribeye Steaks

We’re not big steak eaters. However, our younger daughter enjoys a good steak. So, when they’re on sale, we’ll stock up. That way when she visits, we can cook one for her.

How do we cook that steak? Usually, we would cook it on the grill. However, ever since we got the air fryer, we’ve been using it. It’s a terrific kitchen appliance that cooks food hot in the summer without heating up your kitchen. I appreciate that added bonus of staying cool.

When working up this air fryer recipe, Bill happened to have purchased ribeye steaks, because they were on sale. I know they’re not the most affordable cut in general. However, when Bill sees a good sale, he stocks up.

How to cook a ribeye steak in the air fryer

One of the reasons we love the idea of cooking ribeye steak in the air fryer is how fast you can get it done. Prep time is about 10 minutes, primarily because, except for the steak, you’re working with four ingredients only. Cook time is a little more than that. So, a steak in under 30 minutes.

Step-by-step cooking instructions

Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. Meanwhile, pat dry the steaks using a paper towel to remove excess moisture. You do this to make sure that the ingredients you’ll be using to season the ribeye steaks actually stick.

Cook the steaks in the air fryer for the following times, based on your desired doneness:

  • 6-8 minutes for medium-rare
  • 8-10 minutes for medium
  • 10-12 minutes for well-done.

Set a timer so that you flip them halfway through the cooking time.

  • Medium: 145°F (63°C)
  • Well-done: 160°F (71°C)

Don’t have a meat thermometer? You can find them at a great price on Amazon.

Once the steaks are cooked to your desired doneness, remove them from the air fryer and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing. Slice the steaks against the grain into thin strips.

Final thoughts and notes

Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of your steaks and the model of your air fryer. Adjust accordingly.

Also, let the steaks come to room temperature before slicing. This will allow them to cook evenly throughout.

Finally, feel free to add additional seasonings or herbs according to your taste preferences.
