Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Wooden spoon or chopstick (for poking holes)
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix prepared according to the box directions for a 9x13-inch cake
  • 14- ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Frosting:

  • ½ cup 1 stick butter, softened
  • 8 ounces 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Start by following the instructions on the box to prepare the yellow cake mix. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and bake it according to the directions on the box, usually around 30 minutes. Once the cake is done, let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  • After the cake has cooled slightly, grab a wooden spoon handle (or a chopstick) and gently poke holes all over the cake. You want to make sure the holes go deep enough, but not all the way through, they’ll let the delicious cinnamon syrup soak in.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then stir. Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the butter is melted and the sugar dissolves. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  • Once your cinnamon mixture is ready, pour it evenly over the cake. The filling will soak into the holes, infusing every bite with cinnamon goodness. Let the cake sit for 15 minutes to allow the filling to fully absorb.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed. Once smooth, add the vanilla extract and heavy cream and mix until combined. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
  • Once the cake has absorbed the cinnamon filling, scoop the cream cheese frosting on top and spread it evenly over the cake. If you want an extra touch, dust the top with a little cinnamon for some added flair.
  • Slice the cake into squares and serve it at room temperature. Enjoy the sweet cinnamon flavor and creamy frosting in every bite!
