Homemade Air Fryer French Fries

Sure you can open a bag of Ore-Idas and pop them in the microwave. But, to borrow a phrase, why not "Kick it up a notch?" Make your own home made fries in your air fryer. They will taste great. You will save money. And, it's much easier than you might think.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 360°F for about 5 minutes.
  • Wash and peel the potatoes.
  • Cut potatoes into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place the potato fries in a large bowl and cover them with cold water.
  • Allow them to soak for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry using a kitchen towel or paper towels.
  • Place the dried fries back into the bowl and drizzle with avocado oil.
  • Toss well to ensure all the fries are coated.
  • Sprinkle salt over the oiled cut potatoes.
  • Then, sprinkle pepper over them.
  • Toss seasoned potatoes so you evenly distribute the salt and pepper.
  • Carefully transfer the seasoned fries to the preheated air fryer basket.
  • Arrange in a single layer without overcrowding.
  • Cook the fries in the air fryer for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  • When golden brown and cooked, remove the fries from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • If you've cut up more potatoes than can fit in a single layer in your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.
  • Don't forget to stand watch as the fries cook. You'll need to pull out and shake the basket every five minutes or so to ensure they cook evenly.
  • Fries will shrink as they cook. So don't be surprised if, at the end, you end up with fewer fries or a smaller batch than you'd expected. That's why it's a good idea to cut more and bake them in batches. This way you'll have enough.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the model of your air fryer. Adjust accordingly.
  • Serve the homemade air fryer fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce or as a side dish to your main meal.
