Besides the combination of kid-friendly ingredients and the parent-friendly cooking method of using the air fryer, here is yet another reason I think this recipe for air fryer corn flakes chicken tenders will become one of your favorites: you can go from prep to serving dinner in 30 minutes.

This is even true if you want to hack this recipe and cook it in the oven instead. You will not spend more than 30 minutes getting this recipe ready to feed your hungry brood. It’s no fun when your children are hungry and asking when dinner will be ready. With this recipe, you won’t have to stall them for very long. Then once you set it down on the table, everyone will gobble it up. It will be like all the picky eaters in your household have suddenly disappeared.

This recipe calls for serving these chicken tenders with hot honey as your dipping sauce. Since that might be a bit too spicy for some palates, feel free to offer up your favorite alternate condiments instead. This could be ketchup, vinegar, ranch dressing or mayonnaise.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken tenders
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 cups corn flakes, crushed
  • 1/4 cup hot honey, optional for dipping sauce

Instructions

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika and onion powder. In a separate bowl, add the crushed corn flakes.

Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Next, roll in the crushed cornflakes, pressing gently so they adhere well. Place in the air fryer basket. Repeat until all chicken tender pieces are coated and in the air fryer basket.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to cook in multiple batches. Cook in the air fryer set to 375 F for 15 minutes. You can flip halfway through if you’d like. I never do.

Drizzle store-bought or homemade hot honey over the crispy chicken or serve it on the side for dipping. Enjoy!

Notes

My favorite frugal hack whenever I make chicken tenders is not to buy a package of tenders, per se, but to buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts when they’re on sale and then use my kitchen shears to trim them into tenders.

This recipe is written for cooking in the air fryer. It’s right in the title. However, you can absolutely make these in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer or, for whatever reason, don’t want to use yours. To cook in the oven, heat the oven to 400 F and then bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
